I went to the PFA Awards in April this year and had an amazing night! As a campaigner against discrimination and homophobia in football, it was an honour for me be to attend such an important evening in the football world.
The PFA Awards take place every year at Grosvenor House in Park Lane and it’s definitely seen as one of the football events of the year. It’s an opportunity to network and meet everyone in the industry that you’ve met during the year and also to make new contacts and meet inspiring people.
I had been looking forward to the event and thinking about what I was going to wear for months – but due to my busy schedule and just being me, I ended up planning it all the night before! I last minute managed to go to Westfield where they have great personal shoppers. I managed to pick this Greek inspired navy blue one-shoulder dress. I thought it was a gorgeous dress, and even though I don’t really like to repeat the same outfit, it definitely feels like it would work well at other occasions like a wedding, matched with different accessories.
The evening saw Asenal’s Vivianne Miedema and Liverpool’s Virgil Van Dyjk win the PFA Player’s Player of the Year Awards, Manchester City’s Raheem Stirling and Georgia Stanway win the PFA Young Player of the Year award, whilst the PFA Special Achievement Award was given to former England player Steph Houghton.
On an evening such as this, it was wonderful to see female football players receive equal recognition – after all, equality lies at the heart of my street wear brand Black Heart Label and my campaigning!!
It was a night filled with some great entertainers, a delicious 3 course meal and lots of champagne…. I took a girlfriend and we ended up wining and dining until the early hours of the morning.
Huge thanks to the PFA for my invitation – it always means a lot when I am recognised by big football organisations for my work promoting equality within football.
All I can say is I can’t wait for next year!
