The Hunt for Vinyl Gold: My Second Record Store Trip in Atlanta
After my first trip to a record store in Atlanta, I made it my mission to visit at least another 2. There were still a few vinyls I wanted to add to my collection before heading back to London, so I decided to go on the hunt. Atlanta’s got some of the top record stores around, and I wasn’t about to leave the city without checking them out.
I started my day with a bit of a mission. I had a short list of records I was hoping to find—mostly some classics that had slipped through my fingers on my last trip. The next record store I actually came across by coincidence as i was crossing a road looking for a thrift shop. It was one of those places where the second you walk in, you know you’re in the right spot. The smell of vinyl, the rows of records, the quiet hum of music playing in the background— a vibe.
I started flipping through the stacks, letting my fingers and then asking the know it all gentleman in the shop for help.
I found a near-mint copy of one of the albums that had been on my list—a classic that I’d been hunting for what felt like forever. It’s one of those records that, when you see it, you just know you have to have it. I was practically grinning from ear to ear as I made my way to the counter.
In the end, I came away with a few more gems to take back to London, and having to pay an extro $90 for an overweight suitcase of 35KG....but it was all worth it because each one of the vinyls i bought felts like a little piece of Atlanta that I get to keep with me—a reminder of the music, the culture, and the vibe of the city. There’s something special about finding a record in a different place. It’s like taking a piece of that city’s soul home with you.
Well at least for me it does! lol.
I’m now looking forward to the next city, the next store, and the next treasure hunt. Until then, I’ll be spinning these records and remembering the time I spent in Atlanta, searching for vinyl gold. Peace.
